Turning off your gadgets during takeoff and landing is now a thing of the past. Qantas and Virgin Australia are allowing passengers to use their tablets, eBook readers, mp3 players and smartphones the moment they take their seats.

This is good news for flyers in Australia, as most flights are often short trips that last around 30 minutes. This is a great way to keep productive while on a flight, especially if you are meeting a deadline. But not all gadgets are clear – those that are over 1kg are to be stored to the overhead bins, according to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. The CASA has made it clear though, that you can use your devices during flights, but your undivided attention is still required during the safety briefing.
