Celebrities, sports stars, politicians and even the average Joe have all chimed in on the new internet trend to promote awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) by dumping ice water on one’s head or donating to the ALS Association, fondly called the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Whether people are doing this for publicity or to really raise awareness for the disease, this initiative has so far raised more than US $22.9 million. Let’s look back at where it all started.
